Stop Pricing By the Hour—Start Pricing By the Impact
Underpricing is costing you more than you think and keeping your business stuck in survival mode.
Too many women experts are still asked to speak or consult for exposure or minimal fees, despite years of education, expertise, and experience. This issue goes far deeper than systemic barriers. The call for change echoes from within: undervaluing your expertise leads to complicity in your own financial erasure.
And one of the ways you unconsciously undervalue is using your corporate salary as a benchmark. (PS and BTW - I discuss this and more in my Stop Undervaluing, Start Profiting Masterclass.)
But here’s the uncomfortable truth:
pricing your expertise based on hours worked or corporate salary benchmarks is sabotaging your profits and your power.
Most women experts, especially those leaving corporate, fall into the trap of treating their time like a commodity. But in the entrepreneurial world, time isn’t what companies are actually buying. They’re investing in results, transformation, and bottom-line impact.
Think about it: organizations don’t spend thousands on external experts because they want a one-hour training. They put real money on the table when they believe you can help them solve high-cost problems, accelerate their results, or prevent expensive mistakes.
If your price tag feels shockingly high compared to your old “salary math,” good. Anything less means you’re treating your expertise like a commodity, not the transformational asset it truly is.
Here’s how to break this cycle and price like a profit centered expert:
✨ Start with the profit you want. Reverse-engineer your revenue goal—not from “how much do I want to make” but “what does it cost to run my business and life, and what profit margin do I require?”
✨ Anchor your offers in the impact you deliver. Identify the headaches, costs, and risks your work helps alleviate for decision-makers, not just your credentials or time investment.
✨ Ditch the guilt and comparison pricing. What someone else charges is irrelevant. What matters? What your unique expertise is worth to your ideal buyer.
The shift isn’t just financial. It’s psychological.
When you move from “I charge for my time” to “I price for the transformation I create,” you position yourself as a must-have strategic investment, not a line item to be negotiated down.
